If you thought bridesmaid dresses were hard… guest dresses are even harder! At least as a bridesmaid your outfit is usually chosen for you... Wedding season is here and if you’re anything like us you will be juggling your invitations trying to figure out how many of your dresses are wedding appropriate and where to start when buying the rest! Some colours -white, ivory, black- are obviously a no go but we’re here to help with some of this season’s most popular choices. As we’re pretty hot on accessories and the Great British weather can be pretty unpredictable we’ve also pulled together some cheery umbrella options to help you complete the look.
Pastels
You may have flashbacks to many a bridesmaid dress when it comes to pastels, but as long as you’re not going for anything too gown-like you should be absolutely fine. There are plenty of beautiful dresses that fall above the ankle and have laid back features to avoid you being confused with the bridal party. Long sleeves, a slouchy frame or side tie are generally enough to distance yourself from traditional bridesmaid styles. Pastel blue, pink or green are all great options especially for a spring wedding.

Brights
If pastels aren’t your cup of tea, why not opt for something bright? Yellow is a wonderfully versatile and cheery colour perfect for summer weddings. On the bright side (no pun intended) it’s not a colour typically worn by the bridal party so you should have no confusion. Opt for a block colour with simple accessories or a ditsy floral print for a more whimsical look.

Navy
If like us your wardrobe consists of black, black and more black then let’s ease into wedding appropriate attire gently with a navy option. Whether the bride has an issue with black or not it’s better to err on the side of caution and be polite with the softer navy option.

Red
Obviously you don’t want to take the spotlight away from the bride but red is one of the most popular colours for weddings. If you’re worried about it being too bold opt for a natural fabric or floral print. If you choose an elegant summer dress it will be something you can wear again and again.
